Corr/Pak and TJ Toyota Heighten Anticipation for 2024 Oswego Super Challenge; 75-lap Jim Shampine Memorial Opens Five-Race Series on May 25
OSWEGO, NY (February 3, 2024) - As we inch closer to the start of the 2024 Oswego Super Challenge, excitement is building for the season opening 75-lap, $4,000 to win Jim Shampine Memorial on May 25.
John Brush from Corr/Pak Merchandising and Tammy Ten Media and Ed Cloce from TJ Toyota of Potsdam, NY have again teamed up with Challenge promoter John Nicotra to raise the stakes to $4,000 to win and $1,200 to start for Novelis Supermodified teams.
“We want to give another special shoutout to our outstanding partners John Brush at Corr/Pak Merchandising and Tammy Ten Media, and Ed Cloce at TJ Toyota, for their unwavering support of the Challenge,” said Nicotra. “It is their commitment to Supermodified racing, along with the Oswego Speedway, that allows us to offer a generous $36,000 purse for the second year in a row.”
The 2024 Oswego Super Challenge also introduces a fresh format, with three Oswego / Novelis Supermodified tail wing shows in the lineup including the $4,000 to win Shampine Memorial, the $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified event in August, and the 68th Budweiser International Classic 200 which will again pay $20,000 to the winner on Labor Day Weekend.
Beyond the tail wing portion of the Challenge, the two June events featuring the ISMA/MSS top wing Supermodifieds will maintain a substantial $6,000 prize for the winner of each race as well as $1,200 to start for all cars that qualify for the 50-lap feature event(s).
“Teams are reaching out, and we're in talks with more potential partners that are making all of this possible,” Nicotra shared. “Soon we’ll reveal more sponsors for the pill draw, a quick time sponsor for all five races, and more. These additions will not only boost individual race purses but also enhance the end-of-year point fund. It's shaping up to be an exciting season.'"
All five shows; tail wing and top wing, are part of the combined Oswego Super Challenge points race. Teams will again contest for a grand prize of $5,000 paid out to the overall champion with $20,000-plus distributed across the remainder of the top 10 for a $25,000 total point fund.
New this year, every Challenge event, including the three Oswego Novelis Supermodified shows and the two ISMA / MSS top wing shows will both utilize the ISMA / MSS points system to decide the Challenge champion.
Come 2025, tentative plans are that the five-race format will switch back to (3) top wing races and (2) tail wing races, alternating each year.
Race fans can expect defending Oswego Super Challenge champion Otto Sitterly, International Classic champion Dave Danzer, 2023 Oswego Speedway track champion Dave Shullick Jr. and more Speedway regulars such as Tyler Thompson, Michael Barnes, Jeff Abold, Dan Connors Jr, Brandon Bellinger, Mike Bruce, Joe Gosek, Tim Snyder, Camden Proud, Louie LeVea Jr. and Sr, Jack Patrick, Logan Rayvals, and more at the Opener on May 25.
ISMA/MSS owners and drivers that have expressed interest in invading to pursue the $4,000 winner’s share include Clyde Booth and Mike Ordway Jr, Vic Miller and Ben Seitz, Aric Iosue, and Mike McVetta, with more surprises anticipated.
