Jim Shampine and Tony White Memorials, Double 350 Super Features, and Fireworks at Oswego Speedway this Saturday, July 3

OSWEGO, NY (June 30, 2021) - Oswego Speedway will open up the month of July in a big way this Saturday the 3rd when Century 21 Galloway Realty presents the Independence Spectacular featuring the Novelis Supermodified Jim Shampine Memorial, Pathfinder Bank SBS Tony White Memorial, and double features for the J&S Paving 350 Supers.

As always on Independence Weekend, fireworks will conclude the jam packed, four-feature card which will see racing get underway at 5:30pm with the makeup 350 Supermodified feature event from June 19.

After the 350 Supers complete their feature, the regularly scheduled program will immediately go green with heat racing for the SBS up first, followed by the Supermodifieds, and 350’s.

The Shampine and White Memorials, typically held on Memorial Day Weekend, were moved to Independence Weekend in 2021 to accommodate the rescheduled Spring Classic event.

On Saturday, both drivers will be honored with a 75-lap main event for the Supermodifieds and a 35-lap main event for the SBS.

Supermodified points leader Dave Shullick Jr, the winner of the 2018 Shampine Memorial, leads Otto Sitterly, who has won the Shampine race more than any other driver at an astounding seven times, into Saturday’s extra distance feature.

The master of 75-lappers, Sitterly, with 393 points, trails Shullick’s 405 by a tightened 12 point margin after his win in the 35-lapper on June 19.

Dave Danzer, Jeff Abold, and Brandon Bellinger, at 379, 345, and 342 points, respectively, make up the remainder of the top five in the standings.

Shullick, Sitterly, and Danzer are four for four in terms of top tens, while Shullick is the only driver with a top five finish in all but one race .

Michael Barnes, Alison Sload; who got her first Oswego win in the 2019 Shampine Memorial, Max McLaughlin, Dan Connors Jr, and Mike Bruce complete the top ten.

With the exception of Andrew Schartner, who won the Tony White Memorial in 2014, every driver in the Pathfinder Bank SBS ranks is in search of their first win in the special event.

At the top of the standings with wins in two out of three races is Dan Kapuscinski with a total of 319 points over Bryan Haynes at 298, Cameron Rowe with 290, Josh Sokolic at 282, and Brad Haynes with 277 points filling the top five.

Bryan Haynes, who finished runner-up to his brother Brad in a torrid May 15 battle, is the only driver to finish inside the top five in all three events, while Rowe is the only driver to finish top ten in all three events.

Behind them are three rookies grouped right tight together in the race for the coveted Rookie of the Year Award.

Noah Ratcliff, Griffin Miller, and Robbie Bruce, are sixth, seventh, and eighth in points over Tony Pisa in ninth and another rookie; Joey DeStevens, who currently rounds out the top ten.

Ratcliff, with 259 points, leads Miller by 10 at 249 points, while Bruce has accumulated 240 total points.

All three drivers have been equally as impressive, with Miller finishing fifth in his first start on May 8, Ratcliff earning a top five on May 15, and Bruce nabbing a podium finish on June 19.

Believe it or not, the J&S Paving 350 Supermodifieds have completed only two regular events to this point with Mike Netishen winning on Opening Day May 8 and Nick Kinney on May 15, but it is former SBS track champion Kreig Heroth atop the point standings with 201 points in the Mike Barbera owned No. 45.

With two features on tap this week including the extra distance 30-lapper, there are sure to be some shake ups in the close top five race consisting of Jon Tesoriero with 192 points, Kinney with 187, Dalton Doyle with 186, and Kyle Perry with 185.

Perry, a rookie, is the only driver to finish top five in both races thus far, while every driver first through fifth in points has finished in the top ten twice.

Barry Kingsley, Mike Bruce, Dave Cliff, and Kali Spaulding complete the top ten, and they will all be joined this weekend by Ralph Clark, former Classic champion Tyler Thompson in his first 350 start with Top Quality Motorsports, New Englander John Leonard, and also Tom MacLeod for his first appearance of the year with the No. 32.

Pit gates will open at 2:15pm on Saturday, grandstands will open at 3:15, warmups will begin at 3:15, and group time trials will begin at 5:00.

The aforementioned 350 Supermodified makeup feature will take the green promptly at 5:30 with the regular program to immediately follow.

Don’t forget to stick around for the huge fireworks show to begin right after the final checkered flag.

Fans should also take note that the first Novelis ‘Fan Can Chase’ of the year will be held outside the main entrance from 3:00 to 3:45pm. More details can be found at OswegoSpeedway.com.

Grandstand admission is just $25 and all kids 16 and under will be admitted FREE with a paid adult.

Advanced sale tickets are available at OswegoSpeedway.com or can be purchased at the ticket window on raceday.

The speedway has been a continuously run weekly racing venue since August 1951. The premier open-wheel pavement short track cars in the world, Supermodifieds, run weekly at the Oswego Speedway making it the only weekly Supermodified racing venue in the world.
