Thirty Cars Pre-Entered for $12,000 to Win NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Toyota Mod Classic 150 presented by McDonald's

OSWEGO, NY (August 29, 2019) - Thirty cars have pre-entered for Saturday night’s 150-lap, $12,000 to win Toyota Mod Classic 150 presented by McDonald’s as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rolls back into Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway.

Classic Weekend 2019 marks the fourth consecutive appearance by the Modified Tour, which returned to Oswego in 2016 after an absence spanning over two decades. The NWMT had held prior events at the Steel Palace in 1988 and 1989.

Two of the three former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Toyota Mod Classic 150 champions will be in the field for Saturday’s event including Doug Coby along with last year’s race winner and area favorite; Matt Hirschman.

Supermodified racing will be well represented as three current or former drivers; Rob Summers, Ron Silk, and of course Bobby Santos, who will pull double duty driving both the Sapienza Racing No. 36 and the Jeff West No. 1, have all pre-entered as well.

Leading the NASCAR Modified contingent into the Port City are Coby, Justin Bonsignore, and Silk who sit one, two and three in a very tight points race with Bonsignore and Silk nodded up for second. These three drivers combine for ten of the eleven tour wins this season.

Sitting four through ten in the points race are Craig Lutz, Eric Goodale, Patrick Emerling, Matt Swanson, Chris Pasteryak, Jimmy Blewett, and Woody Pitkat, who is the only other winner on the tour in 2019.

Pitkat, who was originally scheduled to pilot the Jarod Zeitmann owned No. 82, has since parted ways with the team. Woody will now drive the Eddie Harvey owned No. 1 car, but will not be in attendance at Oswego. Meanwhile, Chase Dowling will fill the seat for Zeitmann.

A handful of drivers on the roster should be very familiar to fans that follow Tour Modified racing in New York State. Brothers Timmy and Tommy Catalano are entered, and their mother Amy will also be in action piloting the Allie Brainard No. 184.

In addition to the Catalano family, Tyler Rypkema and Calvin Carroll, two youngsters on the RoC Tour, have entered the event with their family owned machines sponsored by Nelorp and Power with Prestige.

Saturday’s schedule will see hot laps begin at 1pm, the first NWMT practice at 1:35, ISMA time trials at 3:30, ISMA heat races at 4:15, NWMT qualifying at 5:00, the driver autograph session at 5:45, pre-race ceremonies at 6:00, and the first feature event at 7:00.

Tickets for ‘Super Saturday’ of Classic Weekend, featuring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the Jack Murphy Memorial Bud Light ISMA Supernationals 60 for Winged Supermodifieds, remain available by calling the track box office at (315)-342-0646.
