The one of a kind 2-Seater Supermodified is ready to roll at the Oswego Speedway for the 60th anniversary season in 2010. The 2-Seater Supermodified is specially equipped to carry a passenger at speeds up to 130 MPH around the five-eighths mile Oswego oval. The car was originally built by Hyder-Hawk to race on the west coast, but after it was backed into the wall once the car was purchased by Davey Hamilton, who took it back to the Hyder Hawk shops to have it stretched to accommodate a passenger. Hamilton says it is a real race car in every sense, with top notch equipment from nose to tail.
Even though most west coast Supers run with small blocks, this one is equipped with a big block Chevy engine, and will generate as much horsepower as most cars that compete at the Oswego Speedway. For the rides at the Oswego Speedway the 2-Seater Supermodified will be raced with a wing for greater stability. It will hit speeds above 130 MPH entering the turns and will generate 2 ½ to 3 G’s.
Hamilton, who has competed at both Oswego and in the Indianapolis 500, says “This is a racing experience that has no equal. It’s the best ride-along program out there. You get a better feel, a faster ride, and a greater thrill than you will find anywhere else.”
The car is currently being completely gone through to ready it for the 2010 season. Because of the G-forces generated at the Oswego Speedway, head supports are being added to both the driver and rider seats. The speedway will provide all safety equipment needed for passengers, including helmets, fire suits, gloves, HANS device, and there will be two way communications between the rider and the driver. All drivers of the 2-Seater Supermodified will be seasoned Oswego Speedway regulars who consistently run in the top ten in points.
There are several options for taking a ride in the 2-Seater Supermodified. For individuals rides are available every race day before teams are allowed into the pits for practice. There are also two rides available during the intermission after the evening’s heat races are concluded.
For businesses, corporations, or just groups of people who want to make a day of it, the Oswego Speedway is also offering group packages which include tours of the entire race facility, including the VIP Tower, Judges’ Stand, Sky Deck, Tech Garage, and your driver will give you a personal tour of the Supermodified, including an explanation about such things as offset, weight percentages, stagger, engine, tires…in other words, what makes a Supermodified a Supermodified. During the day guests will have the opportunity to sit and relax over Hofmann hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, and beverages.
The 2-Seater Supermodified will be making several appearances before the start of the 60th Anniversary racing season May 8th. It will be at fund raisers for Strong Racing in February, Stowell-Soule Racing in March, and Double Deuce Racing in April. During all of the fund raisers you will have a chance to win a 3-lap ride in the 2-seat Supermodified. It will also be on display at the Gater Racing News Auto Racing Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds in March.
