The successful Oswego Speedway Kids On-Track program continues to grow with ideas and sponsors for 2008. The program which offers various prizes weekly to its members continues to reach out to school children through class room projects again in 2008. Less than thirty membership openings remain heading into Memorial Day Weekend.

The first classroom project was a contest for elementary aged children to design the Kids On-Track T-shirt for 2008. This has been a popular contest over the past four years and the new design will be out for the Memorial Day Weekend races at the speedway.

The focus on young children for the Kids On-Track program is because the program coordinator, Patty Dixon, has taught elementary school in Oswego for over two decades. The annual t-shirt designing competition along with some essay contests during the racing season all play a part in prizes and activities that are available to the kids. For 2008 Patty has Lisa Sova, wife of hall of Fame announcer Roy Sova, to help her run the Kids On-Track program.

The newest corporate sponsor to join the Kids On-Track program is the lodging family of Red Carpet Inn, Scottish Inns & Suites and Days Inn locations in Pulaski and Oswego. They are the sponsor of the new Kids On-Track program mascot, “Red” the Eagle. Red will be on hand each week at the Oswego Speedway and will be making appearances on behalf of the Kids On-Track program at various functions. Several people will take turns in Red’s costume during the season.

Over one dozen corporate sponsors return in 2008 to sponsor the Kids On-Track program. PathFinder Bank awards $250 in U.S. Savings Bonds to program members each year. Lighthouse Lanes gives out a free Kids Birthday Bowling Party each week. Galloway Century 21 Realty and Murdock’s bicycle & Sports gives away twelve new bikes during the racing season. Price Chopper, Raby’s Ace Home Center, Novelis and Constellation and Entergy each sponsor one of the four Oswego County B.O.C.E.S. built “Mini-Supermodifieds”. Constellation and Entergy also sponsor the Pace Truck rides and the two Kids Autograph Sessions during the season. Subway of Oswego gives out a Kids Fresh Fit Meal each week. Hudson’s dairy, Nesquik and Minuet Maid Lemonade provide free drinks for Pace Truck and “Mini-Supermodified” riders weekly. Finally the Oswego Elks Lodge #271 sponsors the year end Cosmic Bowling Party at Lighthouse Lanes.

The Kids On-Track program has proven to be a success since it was formed prior to the 2004 racing season at the Oswego Speedway. The 2008 program will be limited to the first 100 kids, ages 5 to 16, that are signed up at the Novelty Stand during weekly practices sessions starting on opening day, May 4th. I.D. Badges will be given out at sign-in and the new T-shirts will be given out when they arrive. The I.D. Badges are good for free admission for every race up to the August 16th “Track Championship Night”. A Special Classic Week three-day Kids On-Track ticket will be available for $20 for the 100 program members.

Sign ups will be done weekly during the practice sessions by Patty Dixon. After the practice sessions the Pace Truck rides or “Mini-Supermodified” rides will take place. Those rides will be followed by a tour of the announcer’s tower. Weekly prize winners will be announced for all of the sponsor prize giveaways.

Sign up your 5 to 16 year olds for the 2008 Kids On-Track program at the Novelty Stand located under the first turn grandstand area starting on May 4th.
