OSWEGO, NY (December 2) – Oswego Speedway co-owners John and Eric Torrese announced today that Danny Kapuscinski has been named Public Relations Specialist at the famed ‘Steel Palace,’ which is set to kick off its 62nd season of racing in May.
Kapuscinski, 26, most recently served as Media Specialist at World Racing Group featuring the World of Outlaws, Super DIRTcar Series and DIRTcar Racing. In his role with WRG, Kapuscinski coordinated and produced the hit dirt racing highlight show “4Wide Weekly,” while producing nearly 100 television and radio ads per year for the organization. During his three year tenure with the World of Outlaws and Super DIRTcar Series, Kapuscinski played an integral role in the production of over a dozen SPEED TV telecasts, including stepping in as Pit Reporter for the 2010 edition of the SEF 200 at the New York State Fairgrounds during Super DIRT Week.
Prior to his role as Media Specialist at WRG, Kapuscinski served as the Public Relations Coordinator at New York’s Cayuga County Fair and Rolling Wheels Raceways as well as the house announcer for the Canandaigua Speedway.
“We are thrilled to have Danny joining our family,” said John Torrese. “His background and experience will be a great asset as we continue to revitalize the old girl.”
Kapuscinski is no stranger to Oswego Speedway and Supermodified racing. The family name has echoed through the Speedway for decades as Kapuscinski’s parents, Mike and Janet, fielded several home built Supermodified creations in the 1980’s with drivers Joe Hawksby Sr. and the late A.J. Michaels. Danny was no doubt born into the sport.
In 2001, at age 16, Kapuscinski himself would sit behind the wheel at the speedway, first into a Small Block Super. After three seasons, which earned him 2001 SBS Rookie of the Year honors, Kapuscinski made the jump to the Supermodified ranks. Driving for the likes of Joey Witkum and Tom Bliss in the elite Supermodified division, Kapuscinski won Rookie of the Year honors for the second time in 2004 before making his final Supermodified start in 2006, which resulted in a 5th place finish in the 50th Budweiser International Classic 200.
Kapuscinski hung up his racing helmet full-time in 2007 to begin his industry related career with World Racing Group.
“I can’t even begin to put into words how exciting it is to return to Oswego Speedway in this capacity,” Kapuscinski said. “I thank John and Eric Torrese for offering me this tremendous opportunity, it’s really a dream come true. I’ve spent the majority of my 26 years researching and living Oswego Speedway, to say it is my greatest passion is an understatement. With that said, I feel like everything I have done to this point in my driving, educational, and professional careers has led me to this.”
Effective immediately, Kapuscinski will begin implementing the Speedway’s overall public relations programs, which looks to include new and exciting developments to be announced in the near future. As part of his role, Kapuscinski will also look to further develop the Speedway’s social networks as well as community and sponsor relations.
“It is going to be a busy off-season,” noted Kapuscinski. “The wheels are turning and the planning is well underway to capitalize on a great 2011 season. We’re working hard to thrust Oswego Speedway into the era of new media and social networking to provide fans, sponsors, teams and the community as a whole with the best PR and coverage possible, all with the goal of promoting the fast paced action and entertainment you can see every Saturday night at the ‘Steel Palace.’”
The Torrese’s no doubt share Kapuscinski’s enthusiasm.
“Please help us in welcoming Danny on board. We know his experience and passion will bring a tremendous amount to the Speedway. With his help the 2012 season at the ‘Steel Palace’ will be better than ever,” said Torrese.
