OSWEGO, NY (June 27, 2018) - Novelis Supermodified veteran Brian Sobus will be back behind the wheel of his former No. 79 machine in this Saturday night’s Independence Weekend ‘Grand Prix’ 75 presented by Galloway Century 21 Reality and Oswego D Bus.

Sobus, who sold the car regularly driven by Supermodified rookie Nathan Schultzkie earlier this year, will take over driving duties this weekend as the Schultzkie family travels out of town for a vacation.

“Joe asked me a few weeks ago if I would be interested in driving the car when they went on vacation,” Sobus said. “I’m looking forward to coming back, although it’s just for a night. Thanks to Joe, Nate, and UNiFi for the opportunity.”

After returning late in the 2017 season only to find himself involved in a disappointing accident in the Budweiser International Classic 200, Sobus has been busy working with the Schultzkies, aiming to give Nate as many pointers as possible when it comes to wheeling the 900 horsepower Supermodifieds.

“I’m having fun working with the Schultzkie’s and teaching Nate the ropes,” Sobus added.  “They are great people. Nate is a good driver, and with some more seat time, will be a contender.”

Sobus is already a contender himself, with several Supermodified top five finishes to his credit gathered while driving the MIke Murphy No. 60 machine as well as his own No. 79.

The Granby, N.Y. talent has three Pathfinder Bank SBS feature wins to his name, and often comes up in conversation as one of the most competitive Supermodified drivers of the modern era yet to win a main event with the big blocks.

Racing action at Oswego Speedway will get underway at 6:15pm this Saturday with group time trials before qualifying heats for the Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS ‘Grand Prixs’ get the green flag at 6:45pm.
