After seemingly one of the longest winters and certainly the longest offseason in a considerable amount of time, there are plenty of things to look forward to ahead of Oswego Speedway’s 68th seasons which begins with ‘Opening Day’ featuring the Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s for the Supermodifieds plus the Tony White Memorial 35 for the Pathfinder Bank SBS.

Whether it’s the sudden resurgence in car counts, returning drivers, new rookies, an improved concession experience, or anything else in between, fans, drivers, and teams have plenty to look forward to ahead of what is shaping up to be one of the biggest seasons for Oswego Speedway in recent memory.

#1) The first ever running of the Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s will take place Saturday, May 26 providing two Jim Shampine Memorial champions and over 100 laps of action for the Novelis Supermodfieds.

#2) With the addition of the Twin 50’s, there are now two double feature events on the schedule for the Supermodifieds beginning with the 50’s on May 26 and then the return of the Twin 35’s on June 16.

#3) 32 Novelis Supermodifieds and 29 Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supers are registered for competition pointing to the largest Budweiser International Classic 200 field since 2008 and the largest Bud Light Classic 75 field since 2005.

#4) 19 commitment Supermodifieds are registered.

#5) A total of seven rookies are officially registered for action including three in the Supermodifieds and four in the Small Block Supers.

#6) Defending Supermodified champion Dave Shullick Jr. is returning for his second full-time season in John Nicotra’s No. 2.

#7) Rookies Nathan Schultzkie and Tyler Thompson will each compete in the first Supermodified race of their careers this Saturday night.

#8) 2014 rookie of the year and two time feature winner Aric Iosue is returning full-time this season with the former Graham Racing No. 11 recently purchased by his family.

#9) Longtime Oswego car owner Steve Buske has purchased the former Graham Racing No. 90 for driver Lou LeVea Sr.

#10) Tim and Camden Proud have purchased the former Strong Racing Supermodified for Camden to make his debut with later this season.

#11) Veteran Roger Clark is returning to competition this year for the first time since 2000 with a completely reworked 1994 Supermodified built by Snyder Racing.

#12) Oswego Speedway Hall of Famer Doug Didero plans to return to action on June 30 with a brand new car built by John Colloca.

#13) Jeff West will be back at the speedway this season after making a surprise return in 2017 for the first time in over fifteen years.

#14) Jerry Curran has purchased the former Jeff Holbrook No. 35 last driven by Bobby Magner and plans to run for “most of the 2018 season.”

#15) Fan favorite Joe Gosek is back for yet another season after electrifying the Big O with a win on ‘Retro Night’ last year.

#16) Davey Hamilton will return behind the wheel of the Nicotra Racing No. 6 for several events in 2018 including the 62nd running of the Budweiser International Classic 200.

#17) The ‘Jersey Jet’ Joey Payne will return on a part time basis in 2018 behind the wheel of the Don Penix owned No. 14 Muldoon Chassis.

#18) Keith Shampine plans a Jim Shampine ‘8-Ball’ throwback scheme on the Osetek Racing No. 55 for ‘Retro Night’ on August 4.

#19) After taking a year off to chase the ISMA trail, non-wing standout David Danzer will return to Oswego full-time this season in the family owned No. 52

#20) Shark Motorsports has signed on as a commitment team for the 2018 season with Bill Sharkey and Guard Nearbin doing the driving.

#21) Otto Sitterly will be on a mission searching for his first victory since September of 2015.

#22) A brand new IFS car is being built for Syrell Racing driver ‘The Hustler’ Michael Barnes.

#23) Four Small Block Super rookies will compete together for the first time this weekend in Joshua Sokolic, Steve Flack, Tim Glidden Jr, and Tyler Henry.

#24) Missile Motorsports will field two cars weekly this season for returning veterans Anthony Losurdo and former speedway public relations director Danny Kapuscinski.

#25) Kapuscinski will sport a Joe Gosek throwback scheme on his Missile Motorsports No. 00M.

#26) Dennis Richmond will pilot the Bowman Racing No. 12 on several occasions at Oswego this year, racing as “much as possible.”

#27) Former feature winner David LaTulip and family have acquired the former Dennis Rupert No. 99 and will be competing full-time this season for the first time since 2014.

#28) Defending champion Dave Cliff is back with a brand new look on the Barbeau Racing No. 50 to attempt to make it three in a row.

#29) Five-time SBS champion Russ Brown will return to Oswego several times in 2018 in hopes of adding more victories to his impressive resume.

#30) Camden Proud is sporting a brand new flat grey scheme on the Step One Creative No. 54.

#31) Ray Sand Jr. plans several starts this season in the former Russ Brown No. 13 car.

#32) Despite rumors of retirement, Mike Bond, the all-time SBS wins leader, will be back for yet another season in 2018.

#33) Veteran Cameron Rowe is back with a brand new look on his No. 77 FFB Chassis for 2018.

#34) Brad Haynes will return to his family owned No. 86 ride for the 2018 season.

#35) Greg O’Connor has a very sharp new look on his Premier Landscaping No. 90.

#36) The car that Tim Glidden Jr. is driving has not seen the track in over ten years. It was also his father Tim Glidden Sr’s first SBS ride in 1998.

#37) The speedway is opening on Memorial Day Weekend again, a tradition that took place several times in past seasons.

#38) Two additional events will be held in June this year including the extra distance Independence Weekend ‘Grand Prix’ 75 and 35 lappers for the Supers and Small Block Supers.

#39) The Independence Weekend special will see the return of the speedway’s spectacular fireworks show.

#40) Two regular ‘Road to the Championship’ events will take place on July 7 and July 14 followed by the 32nd running of Mr. Novelis Supermodified and the 27th running of Mr. Pathfinder Bank SBS making for four straight weeks of action.

#41) This year’s $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified feature event will go back to the extra distance length of 75-laps.

#42) ‘Retro Night’ will return to open up the month of August for the speedway alongside the Oswego Speedway Old Timer’s Reunion. Several restored Supermodifieds are expected to be on hand.

#43) The ‘Retro Night’ feature for the Novelis Supermodifieds will again be 45-laps as observed in seasons past.

#44) August 11 will mark the first ever ‘Family Night’ at Oswego Speedway.

#45) All kids will be admitted for FREE on Family Night and treated to balloon animals, bounce houses, face painting, popcorn, treats, and a driver autograph session.

#46) There will be two fireworks shows at the speedway this year on June 30 an August 11.

#47) There again be two autograph sessions held first on June 16 and again on August 11.

#48) The speedway’s Track Championship Night will again be a $5 ‘Fan Appreciation’ special featuring championship events for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS.

#49) This year’s Bud Classic Weekend will be bigger than ever with three divisions on Sunday including the addition of the ‘350 SMAC’ 350 Supermodified Classic 35-lapper.

#50) September’s appearance by the 350 Supermodifieds will be the very first in Oswego Speedway history.

#51) This year’s Toyota Mod Classic 150 presented by McDonald’s for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is now $12,000 to win .

#52) Classic Qualifying ‘Pole Day’ will return on Friday, August 31 with only $5 admission for the grandstands or free admission for Classic Saturday and Sunday ticket holders.

#53) The Jack Murphy Memorial ISMA Supernationals 60 returns to Oswego on September 1 with a gigantic car count expected.

#54) After raising an average of 100,000 cans for the past thirteen seasons, the Novelis Fan Can Chase will return in 2018 on May 26, June 30 and July 21.

#55) Three new food vendors will be at the speedway this season including Dino’s House of Burgers, Skip’s Fish Fry, and Barlow Concessions while Cam’s NY Pizzeria will also return.

#56) Skip’s Fish Fry will offer $2.50 Hofmann hot dogs, fresh haddock sandwiches, grilled cheese, chicken fingers, ‘classic’ speedway french fries, and even deep fried Oreos on their menu.

#57) Dino’s will bring its award winning speciality premium black angus burgers, mac n’ cheese, french fries, and boneless wings to the ‘Steel Palace.’

#58) Barlow Concessions will offer snacks such as popcorn, fried dough, candy, and much more for fans.

#59) All beer will go down to $3 this season.

#60) The traction compound will be laid down on several occasions sure to provide some extra exciting action.

#61) Novelis and Pathfinder Bank are back as division sponsors for the Supermodifieds and SBS.

#62) AsphaltVision.com will provide a LIVE broadcast of every 2018 speedway event.

#63) Step One Creative will sponsor a weekly scorecard in place of the Oswego Speedway Eagle.

#64) Weekly highlight video will return online this season.

#65) New and improved graphics and content have been created for Oswego Speedway’s jumbotron.

#66) Race night sponsors have signed on for every event of the season including Holiday Day Inn Express & Suites, A&P Auto Parts, Burke’s Do It Best Homecenters, Bosco and Geers, Galloway Century 21, Oswego D-Bus, Helena Agri-Enterprises, C’s Beverage, Quality Inn and Suites and Best Western PLUS Captain’s Quarters, JP Jewelers, CNY CPR, Skip’s Fish Fry, and U-Pull-U-Save.

#67) Over 70 sponsors and partners have signed on to support the speedway’s 2018 campaign.

#68) It all starts tomorrow, Saturday, May 26 at 4:00pm.

Opening Night at Oswego is set to get underway at 4pm May 26 with time trials for the Pathfinder Bank SBS and Novelis Supers before Supermodified heat races get underway first followed by SBS heats, the first Twin 50, the Tony White Memorial 35 for SBS, and the second Twin 50 for the Supermodifieds.
