OSWEGO, NY (April 25, 2018) - Westhill High School’s Electrathon Club is hosting an Electrathon vehicle race on Saturday, June 6th at the Oswego Speedway in Oswego, NY. Vehicle registration begins at 9 a.m. The race will begin at noon. General admission is free.

The 60 minute race occurs on Oswego Speedway’s 5/8 mile asphalt track with Electrathon vehicles built by high school students in Central New York. Each vehicle will be outfitted with a transponder provided by the Speedway that records its distance based on the number of times it crosses the start/finish line. There is one driver change required at 30 minutes. Car positions will be updated in real time and displayed on the lap board during the race. The winning team’s vehicle will have circled the track the most in one hour using limited electrical energy.

Regardless of which team’s vehicle wins the race, all participating students benefit from participation by applying their understanding of mathematics, physics and electricity as they design and build their vehicle. As important, they also practice problem-solving and leadership skills critical to teamwork.  As the popularity of the sport of Electrathon racing grows, so does the attitude and educational benefits to the students and the public with regard to alternative electric vehicles.
