OSWEGO, NY (January 10, 2017) – Dan Kapuscinski, Oswego Speedway’s Public Relations Director since December of 2011, will be stepping down from his full-time role at the Steel Palace effective Friday, January 27.

Kapuscinski, 31, who recently celebrated the birth of his family’s first child, Michael Peter on December 6, will be stepping away from the motorsports field full-time to take on a public relations role at an area school district.

“I can’t thank John and Eric Torrese enough, first and foremost for stepping in and purchasing the Speedway at a time when it was most needed,” said Kapuscinski.  “Those brothers love the sport and they love the Speedway and I am grateful that they took a chance on me five years ago to come in and help them build a base to get the Speedway back on the map across the country.  But, as you grow older and new amazing things happen in your life, your priorities change and as a result I felt the time was right to choose a new full-time path for my career.”

During Kapuscinski’s tenure as Public Relations Director, the Speedway moved full speed ahead into the world of social media marketing, building a premier presence on the web.

From Facebook and Twitter to YouTube, with thousands of hardcore followers, Oswego Speedway once again became a regular fix for open-wheel, short track enthusiasts across the country and the world.

“Danny has been integral in getting Oswego Speedway and Supermodified racing back into the minds, eyes, and hearts of race fans all across the country,” said Oswego Speedway Co-Owner, John Torrese.  “His daily dedication to our sport and our Speedway and his enthusiasm for promoting our drivers, teams, and sponsors will be sorely missed and no doubt helped put Oswego Speedway back on the right track.  We of course wish Danny the best in his future endeavors and look forward to seeing him at the Speedway when he is able to be here.”

While the Speedway’s online presence made great gains with Kapuscinski on board, it led to other positives for the division and the Speedway as well.

Kapuscinski was able to lead an effort along with Matt Thomas of Thomas Video Productions, to revamp the Speedway’s video editing hardware, re-cabling the entire 5/8 mile in fiber optic HD, which down the road opened the door for national television partnerships with SPEED SPORT and MAVTV.

Since 2014 Oswego Speedway has been featured in nearly two dozen national broadcasts featuring Oswego Supermodifieds, Small Block Supers, ISMA Supermodifieds, Race of Champions Modifieds, and the Super DIRTcar Series, broadcast to countless households around the country.

While Kapuscinski focused primarily on media and public relations his presence in race scheduling grew over the course of his tenure as well.

Along with the reintroduction of the Oswego Supermodified/ISMA Supermodified doubleheader on Memorial Day Weekend, Kapuscinski also worked tirelessly for the return of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to the Speedway and Budweiser International Classic Weekend as well as the shuffling of the Classic schedule which saw the return to the Friday night Party in the Pits and the return of the Pathfinder Bank SBS to Classic Sunday.

Formerly an employee of the World Racing Group in Concord, NC from 2007-2011, Kapuscinski also played a role in setting the initial groundwork that led to Super DIRT Week coming to Oswego in 2016.

Since 2013 Oswego Speedway has ranked in the top five of SPEED SPORT Magazine’s national “My Favorite Track’s” poll and just this year Oswego Speedway was announced as a nominee for Short Track of the Year and Best Short Track/Series Social Media in the annual Speed51.com “51’s” presented by JEGS.

While Kapuscinski spent the majority of his time on Speedway relations, he also volunteered much of his time to the Oswego Kartway with race director Jim Losurdo.

Applying many of the same PR concepts from the Speedway to the Kartway, the Bullring grew from an average of 60 entries in 2012 to now over 100 entries per week along with a stop for the second consecutive year from the New York Dirt Kart Series.

“It’s been an honor working with the entire Speedway family.  The last five years have been so much fun,” said Kapuscinski.  “I’ve been able to do things and meet people, I never thought possible, and I wish everyone the best.  I hope my dad is looking down and is happy with the effort I put forth and now I look forward to bringing my own son through the gates and introducing him to the Home of the Supermodifieds.”
