OSWEGO, NY (July 7, 2014) – The mighty ISMA Supermodifieds return to Oswego Speedway on Saturday for the sixth edition of the prestigious King of Wings presented by Shea Concrete and B104.7 FM.

King of Wings VI will mark the second round of the Shea Concrete ‘Steel Palace’ ISMA Super Series at the Speedway, bringing the best in winged Supermodified racing to the Port City for the right to wear the cape and crown that comes along with a King of Wings championship.

Joining the ISMA Supermodified 50-lap King of Wings VI main event will be a 35-lap main for the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super Series.

Since the inaugural King of Wings in 2009, a total of four different drivers have claimed the coveted title.

King Charlie Schultz I was the first champion of the of the popular summer spectacular, out-gunning then teammate Tim Ice, Mike Lichty, Ray Graham, and Chris Perley for the title.

In 2010, King Bob Bond II earned his first career Supermodified win in the King of Wings driving his own No. 25 Supermodified to victory with Ice again settling for second ahead of Bobby Dawson, Bob Magner, and Joe Gosek.

The 2011 running of KoW would see a third different winner, but again the same runner-up.  This time it would be King Mike Lichty III leading Ice across the line for the win with Timmy Jedrzejek, Trent Stephens and Randy Ritskes filling the top five spots.

The King of Wings main in 2012 was one for the record books, with longtime Supermodified car owner Steve Miller finally grabbing his first main event win with King Dave Gruel IV wheeling the Sweet 16 to victory over Johnny Benson, Schultz, Lou Cicconi, and Jedrzejek.

Just last year the King of Wings would see its first repeat winner as King Mike Lichty V  flew to victory over Dave Shullick Jr., Ben Seitz, Ice, and Jeff Locke.

Each year Oswego Speedway’s King of Wings provides another thread of memorable moments and this year will be no different as defending champion Lichty, will be joined by King of Wings top runner Ice, Shullick, Cicconi, Chris Perley, Jon McKennedy, and more all looking to claim the crown.

Lichty continued his hot streak at the Speedway back on June 7 with a third consecutive ISMA Supermodified victory at Oswego, also becoming the second driver to officially clock a lap in the 14-second bracket at the Speedway during time trials.  Just missing the Speedway’s track record, set by Shullick during Classic Weekend of last season, Lichty cracked a lap of 14.980 seconds and will again eye the lap record on Saturday night.

Shullick will return to Oswego as well this weekend, looking to end Licthy’s streak of victories at the Speedway and retain the track record.  Expected to join Shullick out of the Bodnar Supermodified stable will be six-time Oswego Speedway track champion, Otto Sitterly.

McKennedy currently leads the ISMA Supermodified point standings after three events with a victory at Autodrome Chaudiere back on June 21.  With his point lead McKennedy has also secured a guaranteed starting position in Oswego Speedway’s Budweiser International Classic 200 set for Sunday, August 31.

Always fast at Oswego, McKennedy has lacked the good fortune of a top finish at the lake side oval in the Dunigan Racing No. 79, but hopes to change that on Saturday during King of Wings VI.

Rob Summers joins McKennedy as an International Classic guaranteed starter at Oswego, as he currently rides second in ISMA’s standings driving the Patco Transportation No. 74.  Summers finished second at Oswego on June 7, and is poised for his first career Oswego victory.

The winner of Oxford Speedway’s Bentley Warren Classic in June, Cicconi is third in the ISMA’s title chase driving the Clyde Booth owned No. 61.  Cicconi won the ISMA championship last season driving for Vic Miller and would like nothing more than to bring Booth back to Oswego Speedway’s Turning Stone Resort Casino Victory Lane.

Perley is fourth in the standings and is always a threat in any winged Supermodified event at the Speedway.  With King of Wings being the only winged event the Supermodified ace has not won at Oswego, Perley will be chomping at the bit to end the drought.

Finishing the top five in the ISMA standings is Jeff Locke in the Locke Crane Services No. 37.  Locke appeared to have King of Wings IV in his grasp in 2012, before spinning his machine while running second.  Locke’s non-wing Supermodified teammate Randy Ritskes has two wins at Oswego this season and Locke will be trying with all his might to give his team win number three on the season at the Big O.

Seith, Mark Sammut, Alison Cumens, Eddie Witkum Jr., and Dan Bowes complete the top ten in the series standings.

Once again part of King of Wings at Oswego Speedway will be the Speedway’s Old Timers Reunion, which will take place at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego beginning at 10 a.m. featuring former Speedway drivers and restored race cars.
