OSWEGO, NY (March 9, 2014) – In an effort to push the Budweiser International Classic 200 entry list beyond the 40 mark, Oswego Speedway has committed a minimum of $500 to start the weekend’s last chance qualifier, known as the ‘Bud Light B-Main.’

A full position purse for the ‘Bud Light B-Main’ will be determined during Budweiser International Classic Week, August 27-August 31, depending on the total number of Novelis Supermodifieds entered in the 58th running of the Budweiser International Classic 200.

Until then, competitors can rest assured knowing that taking the green flag in the Classic LCQ will pocket their team a minimum of $500.

The Speedway’s commitment comes just one day after announcing a change to the International Classic’s guaranteed starter program.  Guaranteed starting positions will now be awarded to the top two drivers in Oswego Speedway, ISMA, and MSA Supermodified point standings as of July 1.

“We still believe it should be the goal of every Supermodified driver to start the Speedway’s International Classic,” said Oswego Speedway co-owner, John Torrese.  “When I was behind the wheel, it was my goal to start the Classic.  When Danny Kapuscinski drove, it was his goal to start the Classic.  Times may have changed, but the Classic has not.  It is still the premier Supermodified event in the country, and one of the premier open-wheel pavement short track events across the nation.  We encourage all Supermodified racers to come take part in Classic Week and hope this increase in purse will help in that effort.”

For the past several years a position based purse has not been awarded for the Classic’s ‘Bud Light B-Main’, instead $300 in tow money has been awarded to all non-qualifiers.

With the guarantee of $500 to take the green and pay throughout the field, the ‘Bud Light B-Main’ looks to once again return as a Classic Weekend highlight.

Oswego Speedway’s PR Director, Dan Kapuscinski, commented on the pending full-field purse announcement in regards to the B-Main.

“Some fans may wonder why we do not announce the full purse for the ‘Bud Light B-Main’ at this time,” said Kapuscinski.  “The entire purse for the B-Main is completely based on the number of Supermodifieds in the pits on Sunday, August 31.  With that said, if we get the number of entries we are hoping for we could see a return to heat racing action on Sunday, which would reduce the number of cars that qualify from the B-Main.  Fans remember, when the B-Main was at its best it was winner take all into the International Classic.  The guarantee of $500 to take the green in the B-Main is uncharted territory, and we assure racers the remaining purse will follow suit once we know the amount of entries we are working with.”

The ‘Bud Light B-Main’ has provided its share of memories throughout the years, pitting drivers against one another in one last attempt to qualify for the most prestigious race in all of Supermodified racing.

Many will remember Bill Sharkey’s unforgettable duel with Howie Lane in 1992 resulting in a start finish line kiss, Shawn Muldoon and Scott Martel’s back and forth battle in 2004, and ‘Wild’ Willie Stutzman’s many tries in Oswego’s ‘bread and butter’ event.
