OSWEGO, NY (March 7, 2014) – After sitting out the 2013 Novelis Supermodified season at Oswego Speedway, Gioia Racing will make a full-time return in 2014 with the historic No. 9 and driver Stephen Gioia III along with new primary sponsor, Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists is Central New York’s regional leader in providing quality, orthopedic care to patients. The SOS team of experienced orthopedic physicians and support staff excels in relieving pain, restoring function and returning patients to their regular activities as quickly as possible.

For more than 35 years, SOS has provided customized, comprehensive care to thousands of satisfied patients and families, from athletes on the field to employees in the workplace.

Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists helped to rehabilitate Gioia himself after a horrific first turn crash at the Speedway during the 2009 running of the Budweiser International Classic 200, which left Gioia with severe injuries to his lower extremities.

After several months of physical therapy and rehab, Gioia was able to return to Supermodified racing and Oswego Speedway in 2011, finishing 14th in the overall standings with a top five finish coming on August 27 of that year.

Gioia Racing, known across the country as one of the premier families in Supermodified racing with both Steve Gioia Sr. and Steve Gioia Jr. in the Oswego Speedway Hall of Fame, unveiled a brand new Supermodified in 2012 for Stephen III.

Showing great promise, the new machine needed a full season of research and development and as a result the team decided to take 2013 off to regroup.

However, with the help of Syracuse Orthopedic Specialists, Gioia Racing is ready to return to the ‘Steel Palace’ with their heralded No. 9 racer.

A third generation member of the Gioia family to be entrenched in Supermodified racing at Oswego Speedway, Stephen Gioia III has 14 career top five finishes at the Speedway and ranks among the top 100 drivers in all-time Speedway points.
