The 53rd annual Budweiser Classic Week officially gets underway on Thursday September 3rd with the “Joe Marotta Super Cruise” and WSEN “Party in the Pits”. The event will feature a total of eight Syracuse Nationals Trophies being given out to winning entrants. It is expected that between 300 and 500 classic cars, trucks and cycles will be on hand.

Ever since his debut in the then limited supermodified, now SBS class seven years ago, David Gruel has been one of the drivers to beat week in and week out.  He started his SBS career in the Crow Motorsports #18, and shifted to the Barbeau #50 at the tail end of the 2008 year, and has brought his winning ways with him.  Incredibly, David wheeled the Barbeau #50 to victory in his first outings behind the wheel, in last year’s RoC weekend, and has been on top of the division ever since.

Friday night of the 53rd Budweiser International Classic will feature a first in the sixteen year history of the Winged Super Nationals at the Oswego Speedway. It will be a co-sanctioned event for the Midwestern Supermodified Association and for the International Supermodified Association. As a regular points race for MSA and ISMA there should be a full field of competitors from both series on hand for the event.

The Modified portion of Budweiser Classic Weekend at Oswego Speedway has grown.  The RoC Modified event scheduled for this Saturday is now a 100 lap special. The race will now be a 100 lap format event, paying more money for the teams.  The race was originally slated to be a 75 lap event but will now be a 100 lapper.  Pricing for both the spectators and race teams will remain the same as it was for the posted 75 lap event purse.

The regular 2009 season at Oswego Speedway came to a close with “Twin Features” on August 22nd with the Chris Nelson Insurance and Oswego Quality Carpet “Hoosier Track Championship Night”. Dave Gruel and Otto Sitterly entered the night with slim point leads and both went on to claim the track titles in their divisions. Gruel won both PathFinder Bank SBS features and was named Track Champion for the first time in his career. Joe Gosek and Tim Snyder picked up Novelis Supermodified wins as Sitterly was again crowned Track Champion for the third time in four years.

Oswego Quality Carpet and Chris Nelson Insurance sponsor “Hoosier Track Championship Weekend” to close out two close points races for 2009 at the Oswego Speedway. For the second year in a row, the point races in the Novelis Supermodifiued and PathFinder Bank SBS Series will be decided by “Twin Features”. Otto Sitterly enters the night with a twenty six point lead over Joey Payne and Dave Gruel enters the night with just a one point lead over Russ Brown. The night ends with a free fan “Corn Roast” in the infield. The event a Sunday afternoon 1:00 rain date.

The 2009 “$10 Nights” have come to a close and they proved to be a big success with the fans at the Oswego Speedway. An additional benefit offered to fans for 2009 was being able to purchase “$10 Night” tickets in advance at a discount from any Price Chopper Supermarket in the northeast through their “Tickets to Go” program.

Another late race pass by rookie Andrew Schartner gave him his second consecutive PathFinder Bank SBS feature on Econo Lodge, Best Western and Post-Standard night on August 15th. In the Novelis Supermodified division, “The Jersey Jet” Joey Payne picked up his first ever non-winged supermodified feature at the Oswego Speedway. Point races in both divisions closed up sharply as track champions will be crowned next weekend on “Hoosier Track Championship Night”.
