Story By: Chris Porter, www.oswegocountytoday.com OSWEGO, NY - Andrew Schartner became Oswego Speedway’s eighth different winner of the season in the small block supermodified division Sunday afternoon, after leading all 50 laps of the division’s portion of the 62nd Annual Sunoco Race of Champions (ROC) event. Having been plagued with bad luck throughout the 2013 season, the win was a much needed shot in the arm for the weekly commuting Charlotte, N.C. resident. Following last weekend’s bone-jarring collision with the outside confines of Oswego’s fast five-eighths mile paved oval that left both car and ...Read More...

OSWEGO, NY (July 21, 2013) – It took until the final event of July, but there is now a repeat winner in the Novelis Supermodified division at Oswego Speedway. Otto Sitterly started Saturday’s Race of Champions 100-lap main event, the first Supermodified 100 run at the Speedway since 2005, from the 9th position but rode steady just inside the top five for the majority of the event. After the lap 50 mandatory break, Sitterly came alive and made a hair raising three-wide move by leader Pat Lavery and lap car Bobby Haynes on lap 77 to cruise to his second win of the season and 26th career victory at the Speedway. OSWEGO, NY (July 15, 2013) – After nearly a month without racing at Oswego Kartway, teams and drivers bounced back in a big way with over 100 entries filed for Friday night’s racing action. The Sr. Blue Clone division, designed for experienced young racers aged 10-15, brought 14 drivers to the Bull Ring on Friday with Oswego driver Nate Schultzkie leading the way in both his heat race and the big 20-lap feature event.  Schultzkie, who has also put together some great runs in the state wide NYDKS kart series, held of Kyle Perry and Matthew Barbour to the line for his first main event win of 2013 at the Kartway. ...Read More...

Oswego, NY – Mike Lichty, coming off a convincing ISMA win at Stafford Speedway on June 29, rolled into Oswego to stage a coup to reclaim his King of Wings crown from two years ago. After piloting the PATCO Transportation 84 to a new track record of 15.019, the all-time fastest lap at the famed Port City oval, it was evident that Lichty was on his way to his goal.  Starting fifth on the grid of 28 starters, Lichty drove by polesitter Tim Ice on lap 12 and headed to the King of Wings throne. The race saw previous Oswego Shea Super Series dominators Chris Perley and Lou Cicconi, uncharacteristically out of the race before t...Read More...

OSWEGO, NY (July 14, 2013) – In a mayhem filled event at Oswego Speedway on Saturday night, JJ Andrews had a run fit for a King, leading all 35-laps of the Pathfinder Bank SBS feature on route to his third career victory at the Speedway as a part of ‘King of Wings V’ presented by Burke’s Home Centers, Fleet Pride, and Ponderosa Steakhouse. Andrews started the event from the fourth position, but several early accidents would hand the lead to the driver of the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux No. 93 before a single lap could be completed.  From there Andrews dominated, charging to as large as a full stra...Read More...

OSWEGO, NY (July 10, 2013) – In what has been a dismal weather season, Oswego Kartway has lost two consecutive and five total events to rain so far in the 2013 season. With a point season that began back on May 3, the Kartway has completed just four shows since that time, with another on tap this Friday, July 12. Due to the overwhelming number of rainouts to this point, the ‘Battle at the Bullring’ scheduled for August 2 at the Kartway will now be a point show.  The yearly event, which is typically a non-point program, will feature time trials to line-up the main events for the evening with heat race poi...Read More...

OSWEGO, NY (July 7, 2013) – One week after seemingly nothing could go right at Oswego Speedway, nearly everything did, with the running of Toys for Tots ‘Christmas in July’ presented by Days Inn/Knights Inn of Oswego on Saturday night. Starting from the sixth position, Fulton, NY driver Dave Gruel sped through the field to take the lead from Jerry Curran through lapped traffic on the 18th of 75 circuits claiming his third career Novelis Supermodified victory at the ‘Steel Palace’ in a Grand Prix main event which saw just one caution, with 70 consecutive green flag laps, taking the checkered in only 3...Read More...
