 Mike Bond, Chuck Hossfeld, and Randy Ritskes were the men standing on the top step of the podium Saturday night at Oswego Speedway, as they picked up feature wins.  Bond won the 35 lap SBS Tony White Memorial, with Hossfeld taking top honors in the Richie Evans 75.  Ritskes won the nightcap, the Jim Shampine Memorial 75 for supermodifieds.
    26 cars strong went to Donnie Forbes green flag to start the 2011 supermodified season at Oswego Speedway, with Danny Connors and Tim Snyder setting the pace.  Snyder grabbed the early lead, with the field shuffling in behind looking for racing room.

 Many Improvements Awaits RoC Fans and Teams For This Saturday’s Season Opener at Oswego Speedway.   RoC Mods to do Battle in a 75 Lap Tour Opener. 

BINGHAMTON, NY…The history at Oswego Speedway is one of legends and this Saturday will see a new chapter being added to the story book 61 years of racing at the facility nicknamed the “Steel Palace”.  The Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour will open the 2011 season this Saturday with a 75 lap event.  The RoC teams will be joined by season opening events for the Oswego Speedway Supermodifieds and SBS Modifieds.  Qualifying begins at 3:00 p.m.  A rain date will be utilized for Sunday if needed.

Since Labor Day Weekend last year, Oswego Speedway has been silent.  Saturday afternoon, however, the track comes to life as a three open wheeled division card is on tap for the season opener at the lakeside speedway.


Supermodified, RoC Modifieds, and SBS cars start their season with a bang, as each run one of their biggest shows of the year right off the bat.  It’s Jim Shampine, Richie Evans, and Tony White Memorial shows for each division respectively, with all the drivers cherishing the  trophy with their fallen hero’s name on it.

All systems are “go” for this week’s scheduled “Mitchell's Speedway Press and Parts Plus Memorial Night”.  While facility improvements continue, everything will be ready for the Jim Shampine Memorial 75 lap event, the Tony White Memorial 35 lap event, the RoC Richie Evans Memorial 75 lap event, and the 2010 Hall of Fame Induction ceremony.

On Saturday, May 28th , The Eagles Fan Club at Oswego Speedway will present the prestigious Tony White and Jim Shampine
Memorial Awards in front of the grandstands at Oswego Speedway.

Since the 80‘s, the Eagles Fan Club has presented the Jim Shampine Memorial Award to the person who best exemplifies the character and passion for supermodified racing of Jim Shampine.

After a week delay, open practice was able to take place. The rain parted long enough for Supermodifieds, an ISMA Super, SBS cars, an SST Modified and street stock to get track time.

There were 13 non winged cars on hand, with a field that many promoters would give anything for.  There were three International Classic winners, five feature winners, top point getters, and just a top shelf field of cars shaking down their machines.

New this year at Oswego Speedway is the reciting of the ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ each night prior to the nights racing action.  We are looking for elementary schools and local groups to help us kick off each race night.  Would you or your group like to join us and recite the  ‘Pledge of Allegiance’ in front of all the race fans on the front straightaway?

Weekend long rains postponed the scheduled practice session last weekend.  First, Saturday was washed out by on and off showers, and then all day rains forced an early cancellation to the warm up session.  We’ll give it a go again today, using the same time frame as last weekend.  Gates open at 10am, with inspection to follow.  Spectator gates open at noon, with cars on the track from 1-5pm.

All Riders to Receive Gift Bag

The Oswego Speedway 2-seat Supermodified, newly redesigned for the 2011 season, got in its first practice laps with Keith Gilliam once again behind the wheel.  During the off season Keith designed and installed a whole new body on the car.  The body of the car is white, with red and blue trim.  Gilliam said  “The look is going to remind people of daredevil Evil Knieval.”

Foam blocks contribute to the safety of the drivers. The Torreses have purchased many thousand dollars worth of new foam blocks to line the walls with, to “cushion” the damage in the event of an accident. Foam blocks have been responsible over the years for preventing THOUSANDS of dollars worth of damage, and countless injuries to the drivers.

For the 2011 racing season the Oswego Speedway is reaching out to the Young race fan in several different ways.  New Oswego Speedway owners Eric and John Torrese have announced that all children 16 years of age and younger, when accompanied by a parent, will get free admission to the races.  The only exceptions are for Race of Champions Weekend, The Sprint Cup/Indy event, and Classic Weekend.  John Torrese said, “It’s important to get young people interested in racing so we can keep growing the sport.  To do that, we are offering parents the opportunity to bring their children to the races for free.”

The Oswego Speedway begins the 2011 racing season with an open practice session on May 14. All classes that will be racing during the 2011 season are welcome to participate, so you can expect to see Supermodifieds, Winged Supermodified, Small Block Supermodifieds, RoC Modifieds, Super Stocks, Late Models, and SST Modifieds.
