There have been five feature races at the Oswego Speedway over the first two weeks of the season but there have only been seven different lap leaders through those five events. Ray Graham bounced back from his opening day heartache and picked up his first ever Novelis Supermodified win. For Dave Gruel, he entered the Oswego Speedway record books by leading every lap of his third consecutive feature race.

It only took two races for the Oswego Speedway “Kids On-Track” program to fill up with its 100 member limit for 2009. This program, coordinated by school teacher Patty Dixon and program mascot “Red the Eagle”, offers kids the opportunity to enjoy some special experiences on race night and to win great sponsor prizes weekly.

After the opening day May 9th “$10 Night” was rained out, this week starts three consecutive weeks of the special reduced admission deal for families. Remember that you can avoid the ticket lines at the race track on all six “$10 Nights” by purchasing tickets in advance at any Price Chopper Store, $9 for adults and $3 for children.

The fourth annual recyclable can collection for Novelis kicked off at the Oswego Speedway on Saturday afternoon before the racing action began. Fans continued to show their support for this recycling initiative by beating last years opening round of the can collection.

The opening day “Port City 150” at the Oswego Speedway featured less than half a dozen lap leaders throughout the 150 laps of feature race action but there were still close finishes and popular wins. Dave Gruel, Trent Stephens and Ted Christopher all got wins in cars that they have had very little seat time in.

Memo to Mother Nature – “Ok, we’ve got it!  You’ve had your fun and are still in control, now can we please get on with our racing season?”  We’re 0 for 2 so far at Oswego Speedway in 2009, as rain cancelled opening day to weeks ago, and wiped out the practice session scheduled for last weekend.  This weekend, we will get opening day in with a bang with the Gater News and Parts Plus "Port City 150".

It’s a well known fact that there are two season’s in Oswego, hockey and racing.  Hockey got us through winter, and this Saturday afternoon at 4:00, racing season takes center stage, as the gates to Oswego Speedway swing open for the 59th consecutive season of racing at the Big O.
