2012 Oswego Speedway Schedule Begins to Take Shape
By Oswego Speedway @ 1:16 PM :: 3463 Views :: News

OSWEGO, NY (December 7) – Oswego Speedway officially announced its 2012, 16-race weekend schedule featuring the weekly Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS Series on Wednesday. It all begins with the Oswego Pizza Villa Spring Spruce Up Day in April, straight through to Fall Championship Weekend in September. Oswego Speedway has filled the racing card with its familiar ‘Steel Palace’ staple events, plus a number of additions for 2012.

Returning to the schedule in 2012 are several key annual events including the Memorial Day Weekend specials, the King of Wings spectacular, Race of Champions Weekend, Mr. Novelis and Mr. Pathfinder Bank Night, Track Championship Night, as well as the prestigious Budweiser International Classic Weekend.
Early spring will once again feature the popular Oswego Pizza Villa Spring Spruce Up Day on April 21, giving everyone in the community a chance to leave their own special touch on the ‘Steel Palace.’ The month of April will also give fans their first chance to see and experience the high speed and fast-paced action at the Speedway as teams test and tune their new equipment during open practice day set for April 28.
Oswego Speedway will officially open its gates for the 62nd time to competition on May 5, before a two week hiatus leading to the Jim Shampine/Tony White/Richie Evans Memorial specials held on May 26, during Memorial Day weekend. Both the Novelis Supermodifieds and RoC Modifieds will compete in 75-lap specials during the holiday weekend, while the Pathfinder Bank SBS Series will see an extra distance of 35-laps.
The Jim Shampine Memorial 75 will mark the first of four scheduled 75-lap events for the Novelis Supermodifieds, the most in more than 30 years. Joining the Shampine Memorial will be the June 30 Grand Prix 75 and fireworks, the $10,000 to win Mr. Novelis Supermodified 75 set for August 4, and the newly added Fall Championship 75 on September 15.
The remainder of the month of June will see three weekly Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS events, plus the addition of the Tobias SpeedSTR Series on June 9.
The summer really heats up in the month of July, as each racing weekend truly brings something special beginning with the annual King of Wings. The ultra-fast and winged International Supermodified Association (ISMA) will make their 29th visit to the ‘Steel Palace’ on July 7, joined by other members of the winged Supermodified community; they will battle it out for 50-laps for the right to be crowned the King of Wings.
However, the 2012 King of Wings won’t just see winged Supermodifieds on the schedule. The MustSeeRacing.com Xtreme Sprint Car Series has signed on to join the King of Wings race night for their own main event, plus the “King of Wings: Terminal Velocity Showdown.”
One week after King of Wings, the TQ Midgets will make their first of two visits to the ‘Steel Palace,’ joining the weekly racing card on July 14.
The final race weekend in July will mark the return of Race of Champions Weekend July 19-21. Once again a three day show, beginning on Thursday, RoC Weekend will provide a Friday race date for the Pathfinder Bank SBS Series and again will showcase the Novelis Supermodifieds with a 61-lap feature event along with the RoC Modified 200 on Saturday.
The Speedway will once again go silent the final Saturday in July in observance of the annual International Supermodified Association (ISMA) Hy-Miler Nationals at Sandusky Speedway in Sandusky, OH.
August will be highlighted by the Mr. Novelis and Mr. Pathfinder Bank night, but it will also see the return of the Tobias SpeedSTR Series on August 11, and Track Championship Night set for August 18.
In a change from 2011, the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS Series will have the weekend before Budweiser International Classic Weekend off from competition. The battle for the Oswego Speedway Track Championship in each series will be contested between May 5 and August 18.
With the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS Series dormant on August 25, the Speedway gates will remain open for competition. Track officials are in the final stages of confirming a race night schedule and series for the final night before Labor Day Weekend.
Just days after the final night of weekly competition, things kick into high gear for the post-season and the 56th Annual Budweiser International Classic Weekend set for August 29 – September 2.
The week gets underway with Wednesday’s Racing Rolling Classic Bowling at Lighthouse Lanes in Oswego, NY, followed the next evening by the WSEN Classic Super Cruise Party in the Pits inside Oswego Speedway and the 6th Annual Oswego Kartway Classic, located behind the Speedway’s rear grandstand.
Classic Weekend racing action takes the green flag on August 31 with International Classic Top-14 time trials for the Novelis Supermodifieds, as well as Classic heat races for the Pathfinder Banks SBS Series. They will be joined by the MustSee.com Xtreme Sprint Car Series, which will be making their second trip to Oswego Speedway in 2012.
Saturday’s Bud Light Classic Weekend line-up will mark the second visit of the season for the TQ Midgets, plus the 21st Annual Bud Light Classic 60 for the Pathfinder Bank SBS Series and the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) Supernationals 60.
International Classic Sunday at Oswego Speedway is set for September 2 and will once again be reserved solely for non-wing Supermodifieds. Second round time trials will be held to fill spots 15-28 in the starting field, before the always exciting B-Main locks in the final starters. Of course, the biggest racing weekend of the year will be capped off by the running of the 56th Annual Budweiser International Classic 200 for the Novelis Supermodifieds.
As an added bonus this season, for the first time since 2006, Oswego Speedway will hold an event to be run after Classic Weekend. Set to be run on September 15, Fall Championship Weekend will be a special non-point event for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS Series.

About Oswego Speedway: Oswego Speedway, a sports entertainment company, is a 5/8 mile semi-banked pavement racing oval located off the shores of Lake Ontario in scenic Oswego, NY. Oswego Speedway has been a continuously run weekly racing venue since August, 1951. The premier open-wheel pavement short track cars in the world, Supermodifieds, run weekly at Oswego Speedway making Oswego the only weekly Supermodified racing venue in the world. The Small Block Supermodifieds accompany the full blown Supers on a weekly Saturday night schedule which runs from May through September. Oswego Speedway is mentioned in racing circles as the “Indy of the East,” as no fewer than a dozen past and present competitors have competed at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway including Mario Andretti, arguably the greatest driver of all time, two-time Indy 500 champion Gordon Johncock, along with former International Classic Champions Bentley Warren, Joe Gosek, and Davey Hamilton.
